Robert Louis Onick, 70, passed away Monday, April 08, 2019 Bob was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico on June 12, 1948 to Louis Onick Jr. and Cristyne Draper Onick. Bob was a 1966 graduate of Irvin High School in El Paso and was an accomplished athlete and student. He was named All-District Quarterback during his senior year. He met his wife, Karla, while still in high school. They married in 1967 and were married for 51 years. Bob served in the United States Army from 1968-1971. He attended UTEP and received his BS degree in Health and P.E. During that time he worked for El Paso Parks and Recreation and started the Summer Track Program. Upon graduation, he became a teacher and coach at Canyon Hills Middle School and Austin High School and a Teacher Leader in charge of the Drug Education Program and Teen Involvement. He went on to pursue his Masters of Education in Health Education and another Master's Degree in Counseling. He guided many students as a counselor at Canyon Hills Middle School, El Paso High School, and at Irvin High School. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Paul; and his brothers-in-law, James Dunn and Bob Peyton. He is survived by his wife, Karla (Gore) Onick; his daughter, Leslie Spencer (Peter); granddaughters Kayli Hays (Randall], Samantha Valero (fiancé: Henry Potter], and Sarah Valero; great granddaughter Reagan Hays; his sisters Peggy Dunn, Judith Grantham, and his brother William (Pamela); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly and forever missed. He donated to so many charities, but his favorite was the Humane Society because of his love for the many dogs he had over the years. Gathering of Remembrance will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with Reflections at 7:00pm Monday, April 15, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive. Committal Service will begin at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
