Rodman H. Berry

July 19, 1951 — February 9, 2020

On July 19, 1951 Robert and Harriet Berry as well as the world were blessed with the birth of Rodman “Roddy” Harrison Berry, their third and last child who joined siblings Janet and Arnold. The family was very close with Roddy learning the importance of dressing well from his big sister and developing a love for cooking from his mother, both which he never lost. On February 9, 2020, his 46th wedding anniversary, Roddy was called home by the Lord to greet Jesus and reunite with his father, mother, and sister Janet Williams. Rodman was nicknamed Roddy by his mother from an early age and though he was born in Delaware County, PA his family moved to New York when he was a toddler and he remained there until 1972. That year he reunited with an old flame, Gwendolyn James, whom he originally began dating in 1967 as a teenager. When Gwen moved to California with her family, Roddy chose to follow her a few months later to maintain the relationship; both being New York strangers living in California the two became “two peas in a pod” exploring and growing closer which they would continue to do throughout the decades. In 1974, a few months after he married Gwen, Roddy joined the United States Army serving in military intelligence and doing tours in Korea, Germany, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm, and in 1983 they were blessed with their daughter, TiJeat. After being asked to join special operations, which he felt was too dangerous, Roddy retired from the Army in 1995 and went on to work in security for Rogelio State Prison, El Paso International Airport, and William Beaumont Army Medical Center. Our “Watchman” leaves to mourn his wife Gwen, daughter TiJeat, brother Arnold Berry, nieces and nephews: Kevin and Ross Williams, Lezette Smith and Alexander Saunders, god-daughter Trinity Howard, and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and the Funeral Service to begin at 11:30 am on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the 1st Armored Division Chapel. Committal Service to follow at 1:30 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
