“Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower; We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind…”- William Wordsworth
The world lost a beloved mother, Selen Felices Panganiban, on February 6, 2021. Selen, known to her family as Helen, battled lung cancer, but it never deterred her from living her life. Selen died at home surrounded by her daughters, Annabelle, Violeta, and Sandralyn. She was also surrounded by her grandchildren, Tracy, Roger Jr., Tyara, and Ronald. Her other surviving children, Virgilio, Pedro Jr., and Norman were with her in spirit. In total, Selen is survived by her six children, fourteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She now joins her husband
Pedro Panganiban Sr., son Eduardo, and granddaughter Regina in the loving presence of our Lord and Savior. Selen was born on November 4, 1936 in Gubat, Sorsogon Philippines. She would have been 85 in November. With her great storytelling, listening, and writing skills, it was easy for others to often mistake Selen as a teacher. She was a very warm and welcoming person to all. In her brief encounters with strangers, she loved talking about her family and life, and always left with a new friend. She raised her children with love and devotion in ways such as cooking breakfast and accompanying them to school. Aside from taking care of her own children, she cared for her nieces and nephews, whom she even took in as her own. In her native language, Tagalog, Nanay means mother and Selen was Nanay to all. Selen enjoyed traveling, letter writing, talking to friends, playing bingo, and crocheting. In her passion for crocheting, she has made many cherished items for her family and friends such as throw blankets, table runners, and water bottle holders for her grandkids to take to school just to name a few. Grief is, unfortunately, the biggest price we pay for love, and Nanay Selen was so very loved.
