Virginia B. Valencia, 96, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was born in El Paso on July 18, 1921 to Jose E. Baca and Maria de Jesus Herrera. Virginia was active in the community having served 45 years as precinct judge. She taught several hundred immigrants classes to become U.S. citizens and was selected Mexican-American Democratic Woman of the Year.
Virginia also retired as a library assistant from Bel Air High School in 1987. She was a past president of the Hacienda Heights PTA and first president of the San Antonio Civic Association at San Antonio Catholic Church. Virginia was a devote Catholic, wife, mother and grandmother.
Virginia is survived by sons Robert Valencia (Kathy), Joe Valencia (Ellen) and Ernie Valencia (Fidelina), 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Carmen Herrera and brothers Carlos and Eduardo Baca.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 PM with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 4, 2018 at San Antonio Catholic Church, 503 Hunter. Committal Service will follow at 11:30 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
