In Loving Memory of Annie Mae Wilborn Threatt
December 23, 1929 - June 8, 2026
Annie Mae Wilborn Threatt, affectionately known as "Momma Annie," was born on December 23, 1929, in Marlin, Texas, to the late Alex and Sallie Wilborn. She was the youngest of six children, lovingly nicknamed "Lil Woman" because she never crawled, she simply stood up and walked, a quiet sign of the strength, determination, and grace that would define her life.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in 1942. At just 12 years old, she began playing piano in church for Sunday school and would go on to serve as Minister of Music for over 45 years. Her ministry extended beyond the sanctuary, she was an original member of the Deacons and Ministers Wives, Program Chair for the Women's Missionary Union, musician for the Women's Auxiliary of OWT, and Assistant Chaplain for the James Cleveland Gospel Workshop of America - El Paso Chapter. She was also a proud former member of the Heroines of Jericho.
In 1950, Annie Mae married Joseph Banks, and from that union, her one and only beloved daughter Cathy was born, her pride and joy. In 1962, she married Jonny Threatt, with whom she shared 50 beautiful years grounded in faith and love.
Annie Mae also discovered her passion early in life. At 18, she became a beautician and later opened her own shop within her home, serving her community for 45 years before retiring. Her gentle hands and creative spirit touched generations of women, making them feel seen, celebrated, and beautiful.
She was the heart of her family, the proud matriarch of five living generations. From her one and only cherished daughter Cathy came one granddaughter, Veronique, who lovingly named her "Momma Annie", a name now passed down through the family. That granddaughter blessed her with six great-grandchildren: five boys and one girl. The great-grandchildren, in turn, brought four more great-great-grandchildren into the world, three boys and one girl.
Annie Mae cherished each of them with a deep, immeasurable love. She found great joy in being able to hold, hug, and pour love into her great-great-grandchildren. To have witnessed their lives and been there to love them was a blessing she treasured every single day. Watching her legacy unfold in these young lives was a true gift, one she counted as a blessing from God.
From a family of girls to a household suddenly full of energetic boys, life was never dull, and Annie Mae embraced it with joy, patience, and love. Whether holding a newborn, giving advice, or smiling at the chaos around her, she treasured every moment. Her family was everything to her.
She leaves to celebrate her life: her devoted only daughter Cathy Brown; her only granddaughter Veronique Love; six great-grandchildren Larry Collier, Tareek Collier, La'Nique Collier, Tyrone "T.J." Love (Cherish), Jesi'ah Lewis, and Marcel Lewis; four great-great-grandchildren Tae'Yon, Zouri, Zae'Lyn, Darnell "D'Ray"; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and beloved friends.
Always elegant and always gracious, Annie Mae was known for her impeccable style, hats, shoes, and purses perfectly matched, and for her radiant presence. Classy, Beautiful, Talented, and Deeply loved. A woman of strength, faith, and purpose, whose legacy will echo through generations.
We thank God for the gift of her life and the blessing of her love. She now rests peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
