Our dear and beloved husband, dad and grandfather, Antonio Vitela (Tony) passed on May 31, 2026 at the age of 85.
He entered the US Marine Corps on June 19, 1959 and discharged with honorable service on June 18, 1965. Specializing as an Assault Amphibious Vehicle Crewmember (MOS 1833), where he operated as an AmTrac Crewman. He faithfully served in the Cuban Missile Crisis during the Kennedy Administration earning a Good Conduct Medal and M-14 Rifle Sharps Shooter.
Tony was a proud 30-year veteran of the Ford Motor Co., retiring in 1996. Over the course of his career, he worked at the Milpitas, CA, and Twin Cities, MN, manufacturing plants, ultimately retiring as a supervisor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Vitela and Josefina Ramirez Vitela; brother, Frank Vitela II; sister, Anunciata Rasmussen and son, Gabriel Abreo.
Tony is survived by his loving wife Mary H. Vitela; children, Josie Vitela (Tina), Antonio F. Vitela (Katie), Dan Abreo (Clara), LaVonna Vitela, Elizabeth Vitela and Raquel Abreo who is also a proud Marine. He was blessed with 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory is his brother, Tommy Vitela (Linda); sister, Claudia Sanger and the mother of his children Patricia Pena. Along with numerous family members and friends.
God bless our wonderful husband, dad and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his faithfully grateful family, who will love him always and forever.
Committal service with Marine Military Honors will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 2:30pm at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906
