Armando Hugo Luevano, age 88, cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2023. He was born February 17, 1935, to the late Armando Luevano and Leonor Holguin Luevano in El Paso, Texas, the place of his passing.
Family and friends remember Armando as witty and hilarious, and also as a man of intelligence and warmth. After graduating from El Paso High School, Mando began work for the city of El Paso; after completing a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in civil engineering at the University of Texas-El Paso, he rose through the city’s administration and retired as superintendent of the Street Department.
Mando was a dedicated and active parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church for several decades. As a younger man, he proudly served his country in the Naval Reserve for a number of years.
He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Josefina Rehin Luevano, son Hugo Luevano, daughter-in-law Rosa Medina Luevano, and sisters Irene Navarro and Rita Emerson.
He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Blake Westmoreland, of Dripping Springs, Texas; daughter Laura Luevano, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Jennifer Luevano, of Fort Collins, Colorado.
Armando also is survived by grandchildren Michelle Luevano, of El Paso; Sierra, Luke, and Sawyer Strickler, of Virginia; and Zoe and Asher Luevano, of Colorado; and by his sisters Carlota Wilson, of Tucson, Arizona, and Lucia Luevano, of El Paso.
A Rosary will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 29, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler Dr. El Paso, TX with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at 12:45 PM at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
