Armando V. Lujan

June 26, 1945 — December 27, 2025

El Paso

Armando Vasquez Lujan, age 80, entered into the hands of our Lord and Savior on December 27, 2025. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and true gentleman, Armando will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Armando was born in Marfa, Texas, where he attended Blackwell School and Marfa High School, and played football for the Shorthorns. At a young age, he took over Mando’s Drive-In in Marfa, demonstrating a strong work ethic and leadership.

He later moved to El Paso, where he worked for El Paso Ambulance. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Esther, in a unique and memorable way—over the phone, as she was an Operator with Southwestern Bell. Their connection grew into a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion and later married on May 1, 1976. He was a longtime member of Abundant Church, where he faithfully served as an usher for many years. He was deeply involved in his community, coaching basketball and baseball in city leagues. He took great pride in this role and was always touched when former players recognized him years later, greeting him with a smile and asking, “Coach, how are you doing?”

He was a devoted member of the Ysleta Lions Club, where he played an important role in aiding individuals with disabilities and volunteering to help the less fortunate through vision screenings and the distribution of glasses.

Armando also worked at the Phelps Dodge Copper Mill, but felt a deeper calling to serve others. He found his true vocation in the funeral industry, where he dedicated over 40 years as a pre-need counselor and funeral ambassador. He spent his final years serving families with compassion and professionalism at Sunset Funeral Home. Armando was widely respected in the industry and took pride in mentoring others; teaching what it truly meant to be a professional. He instilled those same values in his sons, encouraging them to always to give their best in their chosen professions.

Armando was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Esther Lujan, and his cherished dog, Fluffy.

He is survived by his sons: Christopher Lujan; Armando Lujan Jr. (Cristina); and Edward Lujan; and his grandchildren: Mia, Joseph, Oscar, Michelle, Ivan, Maylene, and his two brothers; Mateo Quintana, and Jimmy Lujan.
