Arthur C Amarillas, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016. He was born in Ione, CA, on June 22, 1928. He served in the Navy from July 28, 1943 through April 15, 1946. He also was a See Bees in 1970-1974. Arthur was commended for his courage and seaman like action in manning and taking his boat to safety during darkness under heavy seas and fresh gale when the ship was obliged to get underway at a moment’s notice at Ominato Honshu Island, Japan at 0330 on October 25, 1945. Through his effort the boat was undoubtedly saved from foundering. Arthur owned his business in A&E Paving for 55 years and then retired in 2010.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Teodoro, Jose, Rudy, Tony, Leonardo and his sisters Placida, Carmen, Mercedes and Margarita. He leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Elena G. Amarillas. His three sons: Enrique, Eddie, and Antonio. His 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. His sisters, Isabel and Leonor, and brother Francisco.
Visitation will be from 5-9 PM with a Vigil/Rosary at 7 PM on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. A Funeral Procession will follow at 11:30 AM to Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
