Arturo Chacon, age 81, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Center for Compassionate Care- West Hospice El Paso after his l0 year battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife of 41 years Tere Chacon; five daughters: Dora A. Acosta (Dionicio), Cecilia Quintanar (Ricardo Hernandez), Leticia Calderon (Ray), Dianna Y. Enriquez (Robert), and Inez M. Carrasco. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Adryanna, Tury, Ruby, Vanessa, Jeremy, Isaac, Daisy, Alex, Jacob, and Chelsea; and two great-grandchildren: Jaidyn and Isaiah. He is survived by his brothers and sister: Enrique Chacon, Ema Chacon and Dr. David B. Garcia. He is preceded in death by his father Conrado Chacon and his mother Albina B. Garcia.
Arturo was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Colonial (LSD 18) in 1953 and U.S.S. Tulare (AKA 112) in 1954. He also served in the Korean War and is the recipient of multiple medals of Honor. He worked 40 years at Ft. Bliss Army Base Civil Service and retired in 1993.
He served in the capacity of trustee at La Trinidad United Methodist Church and El Divino Redentor United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Homes, 750 North Carolina, El Paso, TX 79915 on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. with a Prayer service to begin at 7:00 P.M. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 9:45 A.M. at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
