Arturo Hernandez

Arturo Hernandez passed away on August 13, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 11, 1944. Arturo graduated from Jefferson High School and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving his country, Airman First Class Arturo Hernandez worked in communications at a United States Air Force Central Security Control facility. His tour of duty took him to Iceland, the Azores, Spain, Vietnam, and other countries. When he returned to El Paso, he met and married Ofelia.

 Arturo retired after working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Cactus, Texas. He enjoyed draftsmanship, his beloved puppies, and fishing with his brother Armando. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vicente and Concepcion Hernandez, three siblings, Vicente II, Irene, and Armando; and his wife Ofelia. He is survived by nine other siblings: Maria Elena O'Dell (Rodolfo), Teresa Stamates, Elva Ortiz, Vicente Hernandez I!! (Gilda), Rosa Prieto, Susana Galindo, Lucy Michal, Patricia Martin (Edward), Laura Juarez, and his daughter, Yvette and five grandchildren. 

Pallbearers are Michael Galindo, Adam Juarez, Emil V. J. Michal, Rudy O'Dell, Eric Prieto, and Nicholas Prieto. Honorary pallbearers are Vicente Hernandez III, Vicente E. Hernandez, Phillip Martin, and Thomas S. Stamates.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM, Monday, September 21, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Homes - East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass time will be held at 11:30 am Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at St. Raphael's Parish Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar Rd. Graveside Service will follow at 1:00 PM, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson.
