Betty Jean Carson Mrs. Betty Jean Carson, 86, passed away Saturday, July 9th, 2016 in El Paso, Texas, with loved ones by her side. Funeral services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass in El Paso, on Thursday, July 14th, 2016 with viewing beginning at 10:30am and services at 11:00am. Committal Service will follow at 1:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. A lifelong resident of El Paso, Betty Carson was born July 21st, 1929 to the late Charles and Mayme Broadhead. She graduated from Austin High School and then Texas Woman’s University receiving her Education degree. Betty married Irvin “Skip” Carson on March 16th, 1951. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Skip, and her sisters, Louise Machonis and Virginia Brown, and life time friend, Paul Gibson. She is survived by three children: Debby Brokaw and husband, Andrew; Karen Cook and husband, Edward; and Kevin Carson and wife, Barbara; five grandchildren Jonathan Brokaw and wife, Christen, David Brokaw, Crystal Cook, Shannon Oden-Cook and husband Max, and Carty Carson; two great grandchildren, Cora and Charles Brokaw; lifelong friends, Steve Kunert and Lupe and Josh Celaya. Betty Carson retired from El Paso School System after 35 years of teaching. She had a tremendous impact on her students and continued to be in many of their lives. Mrs. Carson was very active in her church, Beta Sigma Phi, Red Hats, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Discover El Paso. Betty loved the mountains, the El Paso city views and sunrises, and the wildlife outside her back door. She loved to watch country music videos and listen to country music and Christian programs. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of El Paso, 4991 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX, 79906. Betty loved all animals, especially her beloved Kissy and Oreo.
