Candida Flores

Candida Flores, 77, passed away in El Paso, Texas on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, with her closest family by her side.

Early Life

Candida was born in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico on October 6, 1948. After grade school, she studied at the Instituto Comercial in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, and later studied cosmetology at Roma Beauty School in Chicago, Illinois. She lived in Chicago from 1984 to 2020. Her greatest love was her three sons, Mark, Alex, and Tony — who is her grandson, but she always loved and cared for as her own.

Hobbies, Organizations and Later Years

Candida worked for Rentokil as a floral designer, decorating some of Chicago's most prestigious offices and skyscrapers. She loved cutting hair for her friends from church, and was a faithful member of Christian Fellowship Church for many years. She also cherished attending Bible study with her Hispanic church community. She had a sweet tooth, loved dancing in her younger years, and loved cooking for her family, using recipes passed down from her older sister, Cuca Hernandez. Candida was always a happy person with a contagious smile. Later in life, she proudly became an American citizen, a milestone she held dear.

Preceded in Death and Survived by

Candida was preceded in death by her parents, J. Pilar Aguilera Piñón and Candida Chávez Quevedo, and her siblings Aurora Granado Aguilera, Refugio "Cuca" Hernandez Aguilera, Pilar Aguilera Chávez, Tomás Aguilera Chávez, Ramón Aguilera Chávez, and Susano Aguilera Chávez. She is survived by her sons, Mark Aguilera and Alex Flores; her grandson, Anthony Valente Aguilera; her daughter-in-law, Joanna Aguilera; and her siblings, Jesus "Chuy" Aguilera and Gloria Prueser Chavez.

Funeral Service Times

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Friday, July 17, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Homes – East, 750 N. Carolina, El Paso, TX. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the same location. All times listed are Mountain Time.
