Carl O'Neal Matthews

CW3 (RET) Carl O. Matthews, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, friend, solider, deacon, child of God, passed away on Friday the 24th of April. Carl was born in Romance, Arkansas on June 13, 1933, to Opie Matthews and Ruby Strickland. He was married to Hazel Long for 61 years. He served in the Army for 23 years, fought in Korea and Vietnam twice. He is survived by his wife Hazel; daughter, Karen; son, Gary; two grandsons; two great granddaughters; one great grandson; five brothers and four sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 4710 Hercules Ave, El Paso, Texas 79904, 915-755-0400. Carl's family wishes to thank the staff at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast and Hillcrest Baptist Church, especially Adam Garber and his wife. A Visitation will be from 10:30am with a Funeral Service at 11:30am on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
