Carlos "Charlie"
Escandon
June 1, 1945 — June 19, 2026
Carlos “Charlie” Escandon, lifelong resident of El Paso, passed away June 19, 2026. Our sorrow at his parting was only made sustainable knowing that our much-beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother is now finding joy in the presence of our Lord and his wife, Maria Teresa "Terry," who preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Charles (Natalie) Escandon, Samuel Escandon, Jo Ann (Andy) Fussell, Tracy (David) Guenther, and Valerie (Fernando) Monarez; his grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, Matthew Escandon, Alexys Benortham, Cameron Escandon, Andrew, Rebecca, Allison Fussell, Marco, and Andrew Monarez. Charlie was a proud graduate of El Paso Tech High School, where he learned the trade of a machinist. He carried on with that trade as he honorably served in the Navy from 1963-1967. He maintained involvement with the military community as a lifetime member of the VFW. He turned his favorite pastime, baseball, into a gift for his community.
He was a fair and trusted umpire for local youth and school leagues and a proud co-founder of the Upper Valley Softball League. Charlie followed in his parents’ footsteps and volunteered for over 40 years, even serving as president for the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration committee. Charlie will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, telling jokes, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
