SFC (RET) Carlton Hill Di Mery Sr.

Mr. Carlton Hill Di Mery Sr., age 83, was born on April 25, 1938 in Robeson County, NC and left his earthly home for his Heavenly home on January 21, 2022 in El Paso, Texas. He leaves behind his wife of almost 56 years, Mrs. Irmgard Blumenschein Di Mery and three children; Ms. Carmelita Di Mery, Ms. Yolana Di Mery (David Cromeans), and Mr. Carlton Di Mery Jr. (Laura Di Mery). He was also blessed with four grandchildren; Andrea Di Mery, Megan Di Mery, Cameron Di Mery, and Isabelle Di Mery. Carlton was a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews. Carlton came from humble beginnings as a young Lumbee Native American Indian tending to the crop fields as part of a share-cropping family. He began serving his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army when he was 20 years old. He traveled the world and eventually met his wife in Darmstadt, Germany where Carlton and his wife had their children. Carlton spent several tours in Vietnam and Korea and received many awards and medals including The Bronze Star for his heroism in Vietnam. Carlton served his country for almost 21 years. After his military service, Carlton settled in El Paso, TX with his wife and children and worked as a Communications Engineer for Union Pacific Railroad until he retired after almost 30 years of service with the railroad. He spent the remainder of his life living with his wife on their farm in Anthony, NM tending to the fruit and nut trees, planting his gardens, and chasing the peacocks. Upon entering Heaven, he was greeted by his father and mother Mr. Javan Dimery and Mrs. Jesse Belle Locklear Dimery, and his sisters, Mrs. Joyce Locklear (Josephus (d)), Mrs. Maitland Cummings (John Earl (d)), Mrs. Carol Oxendine (Thomas), and his brother Mr. Odgen Dimery (Sue), and his nieces Iris Cummings Locklear, Patricia Dimery Oxendine, and his nephew Michael Locklear. He is survived by two brothers, Mr. Charles Dimery (Blanche), Mr. Richard Dimery (Cathy) and one sister, Mrs. Louise Weaver (Roy). Carlton is also survived by many extended friends and family to cherish and honor his memory. A Visitation will be held Monday, February 14, 2022 at 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Eulogy Service to follow at 5:30 pm, at Sunset Funeral Home- West. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 5005 Love Rd. El Paso, Texas 79922, with a Graveside Service to follow at 1:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. The Star of El Paso will be lit on February 14, 2022 by family friends in honor of Carlton and Irmgard Di Mery’s life together and love for each other.
