Carmen Holguin-Gomez (93) was known to her grandchildren as Chi'i. She passed at Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, TX, on October 25, 2025. Carmen married Rafael Gomez in 1950. Together, they had seven children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Rafael, awaits her in the heavens. She is the daughter of Francisco Holguin and Inocencia Reyes Holguin (deceased). Her siblings include Francisca H. Saenz, Consuelo H. Reyna (deceased), Rosa H. Hernandez, Armando Holguin (deceased), and Lydia Holguin Ellington. Her children, Estela Gomez, Manuel Gomez, Roberto Gomez, Consuelo Gomez-Favila, Patricia Gomez-Riggs, Rafael Gomez Jr., David Gomez, and Fluffy (deceased), are thankful for her love and devotion and will cherish her teachings and memories.
Chi'i Carmen demonstrated deep involvement in the San Antonio Feast as a "Majordoma" (3 times). Carmen's existence is rooted in her Catholic and Pueblo faith. As an affirmation of her devotion to Tigua spirituality, Carmen served on the Kateri Tekakwitha Circle for over two decades. Carmen consistently opened her home to the community for annual ceremonial dances. A special thank you goes out to the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Tribal Council and Traditional Council, Karl Maahs, and her many friends, family, and caretakers.
A Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Mission, 131 S Zaragoza Rd. A Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 31, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Mission. A Graveside will follow at 11:15 AM at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, TX 79907.
