Dr. Charles Edward Freeman Jr.

Dr. Charles Edward (Eddie or Ed) Freeman, Jr., age 81 entered the kingdom of heaven on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in El Paso, Texas. A resident of El Paso, he spent his life as a Biology Professor at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) and was a loving husband to Mary Anna Johnson Freeman (d. 2019). Ed was born in Ironton, Missouri in 1941 to Charles Edward Freeman, Sr., and Martha Colleen Burbank; his sister was Annette Nellon Freeman Bailey (d. 1979). Ed was known as a dedicated and loving Christian by all, especially by his home congregation at Westside Church of Christ. He was a Boy Scout troop leader, softball coach, and church elder. He and Mary Anna were foster parents, adoptive parents, volunteers in their community (El Paso, Las Cruces, and Juarez), and generous donors to various children’s homes in Texas, Mexico, and New Mexico. Ed was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sons Charles Edward Freeman
III (Lori), Lee Agustin “Augie” Freeman, Mark Adrian Freeman (Michelle), and daughter Juliana Elizabeth
Freeman Ewing. Grandchildren include Connor, Ben, Ellie, Emmalyn, Anna, Forrest, and great-grandson,
Walter. He lives on in all whom his life has affected.

Forrest Ewing.

Ed’s Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 10:30 am, at the Westside Church of
Christ, 100 Crestmont Dr.
A Graveside Service will follow at noon (12:00pm), at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery, 4900 McNutt
Rd, Santa Teresa, NM 88008
