It is with a sad heart and a joyful shout to the heaven's that I announce the passing of Dr. Charles Travis Hawkins. He passed on November 22, 2017
He was a father, grandfather, and uncle but most of all, he was a teacher. He graduated with his bachelor's degree from Texas Western College, now known as The University of Texas at El Paso, in 1963. In 1968 he received his Masters degree and in 1976, from Texas A&M University, his Doctor of Philosophy.
He taught high school first and then college courses. He taught in El Paso for the last 30 years. He also taught in Mexico at the Universidad de Monterey in Querétaro and in Juárez. He spoke at Oxford, by request, on multiple occasions. In the end, he was a tenured professor at UTEP.
His passion was math and music. In the early 2000s he retired from teaching and did some traveling. He went to England, Russia, and the Philippines. After a couple of years he tired of this and returned to the love of his life, teaching, and taught at UTEP for another 12+ years.
He is survived by his brothers, Vernon and Gerald, as well as his sons, Walter and Cirilo, daughter's Susie and Brenda and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was attended by many of his family during his final days.
