Cherri Elizabeth Macdonald, a cherished daughter, friend, and beloved member of the El Paso community, passed away on April 20, 2026, in El Paso, Texas. Born on September 25, 1960, in Bakersfield, California, Cherri graced this world with her presence for 65 years. Her life was marked by kindness, resilience, and a profound warmth that touched all who knew her. Her loving family remembers her spirit fondly, keeping her memory alive in their hearts.
Cherri was the devoted daughter of the late William Merlyn Mathews and Priscilla Jean Batey. She is survived by her loving husband John Macdonald, son Paul John William Macdonald, Daughter Mary Elizabeth Megan Nicholson and Husband Alexander Nicholson, Daughters Ellison Joyce and Evangeline Frances; Sister Shonna Lannoye; Brother William Christopher Mathews and Wife Pamela Mathews; Sister Feleisha Leeann Griffith and Husband Kenneth Griffith Jr.; Brother William Merlyn Mathews II; Sister Tasha Lynn Mathews; Sister Susan Janelle Mathews; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Cherri graduated from Parkland High school in 1979 and went on to attend El Paso Community College to earn a degree as a Medical Assistant. After college she traveled with her husband in the military for 6 years and worked in the medical profession. Cherri and her husband returned to El Paso where she settled down and worked for the family business until 2013. Cherri’s favorite hobbies included crafting baking, sewing, and traveling.
Cherri was a member of the El Paso Assembly #4 International Order of the Rainbow Girls, a member of the Eastern Star and served many positions such as Past President Beauceant and Social Order of Beauceant, and Worthy Matron of Woodbine, and Wallace Hughston order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Ladies of the Shrine and held the positions such as High Priestess. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
A Visitation will be held on May 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast, located at 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, Texas. A Prayer Service will follow at 6:00 PM
The celebration of life will continue the following day, May 5, from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast. This time will be dedicated to joyfully remembering and honoring the many contributions she made during her lifetime. A graveside service will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 4848 Alps Drive, El Paso, Texas, at 12:30 PM and concluding at 1:30 PM, where Cherri will be laid to rest with dignity and love.
