Constance Barbara Dyer Barksdale (Connie), was born on December 4, 1951 in Rochester New York to George and Lorraine Dyer. She transitioned to our Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2016 in her home in El Paso, Texas. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine L. Dyer and father, George D. Dyer Jr., sibling Conrad B. Dyer, and spouse of 45 years Ronal B. Barksdale.
Connie moved to El Paso 37 years ago. She was the owner of “Night Accessories by Constance” a company that produced one of a kind multi ethnic dolls. She was a member of the Thelma White Network and the El Paso branch of the National Doll Club. Her fundraising work has benefitted Muscular Dystrophy and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome charities. Connie was the recipient of the 411 News Unity Award and the Oro Court No. 20 award for Devoted and Invaluable Services. Her love was arts and crafts. She volunteered her time to work with El Paso Art Resources, in teaching children and adults the construction of crafts and dolls. Connie was also featured in the book “African American Achievers Making History on the Border in El Paso authored by Ethel Kindred. Connie lived a life of selflessness and service.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memories of giving, kindness and selflessness to: one son, Gregory Allen Barksdale, 6 brothers and sisters: Carol B. Dyer Hicks – El Paso, TX, Craig B. Dyer, Carla B. Dyer Long., Carleton B. Dyer, and Cheryl B. Dyer residing in Rochester NY, and Cameron B. Dyer Atlanta, GA.; Nieces and Nephews: Michelle, Renita, Benjamin, Brandon, Byron, Yanique, Courtney, Hausine, Shantal, Carleton II, Lavon, Lateesha, and Dayla. Connie also had a host of relatives, Aunts, and Cousins residing in Orlando, Florida.
