Cornelia “Corrie” Nass, 87, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, joining her loving husband, Arlie, on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Corrie was born Cornelia Maria Jacobs in the Netherlands on August 11, 1936. Her family emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States in 1948 when she was 12 years old. She was immediately enrolled in a Catholic school and immersed in the English language. After graduating from high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at Farmer’s Union Gas in Regent, North Dakota, where she met Arlie Nass, the grandson of Norwegian immigrants. Together, in 1956 they relocated to El Paso, Texas, where they married. In marriage, Corrie was a full-time wife and mother. Both she and Arlie loved to dance, and they spent many Saturday evenings on the dance floor of the local nightclub Tom Bell’s. She served many years as an officer of Women of the Moose, the female auxiliary of the fraternal and service organization Loyal Order of Moose. She was very skilled at baking having learned the art from her father, whose profession it was in the Netherlands. In middle age, Corrie learned to swim, after which she enjoyed regular visits to the public pool. She also took up bowling and spent many years in league play, where she made many lifelong friends. Corrie always loved dogs and cats, which evolved into a passion for cats. For many years, she fed, loved, and cared for any number of stray and feral cats and kittens in the neighborhood. Corrie was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie LaVerne Nass; her parents Gerardus and Johanna Jacobs; and her siblings Pete Jacobs, Quirina Denys, and Jayne Howard. She is survived by her brother, Leo Jacobs; and her children Shelly Bohren, Steven Nass, and Charles Nass. Corrie was a dedicated and beloved wife and mother; a loving, sweet, kind soul with a beautiful, unforgettable smile. She will be fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
