Dale Leroy Versluis
September 7, 1947 – January 27, 2016
Dale Versluis, 68, died January 27, 2016. He was born and raised in Alexandria, Minnesota. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy, patrolling the Mekong River in Vietnam. After the Navy, he attended Lakewood College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He moved to El Paso, and attended UTEP majoring in Journalism. With this knowledge, he began a new career as a proofreader at court reporting firms.
In his later years he amassed an impressive collection of medieval weapons celebrating his Viking and Western European heritage. As his funeral ship sails into the sunset, the fiery arrows will usher him both into Valhalla and the heavenly kingdom.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; a sister, Jill Wagner, her husband Tracy and their children Michael, 25 and Coleen, 23, of Milan, Minnesota; son Jason, wife Kerry and two grandsons, Justin, 16 and Nicholas, 12, of St. Paul, Minnesota.
There will be a Celebration of Dale’s life on Wednesday, February 3, from 7 to 9 pm at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Committal Service will be on Thursday, February 4 at 1:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, West Pavilion with Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast.
