On April 1, 2019, Damon M. Montague received the highest honor and was mounted up on wings to rest eternally with our Heavenly Father. Born on September 8, 1966 at Malcolm Grow Medical Clinic on Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs, Maryland, to Michael S. and Sonja T. Montague, Damon served our country with great distinction, and he lived his life as a retired military veteran, a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
At an early age, Damon accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Damon was reared in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Alief-Hastings High School in 1984. He then attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. In 1986, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country until his honorable retirement in 2006. Damon was a well-respected and a highly-distinguished war-veteran, where he earned many medals and badges throughout his military career, including the Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal (7th Award), Army Achievement Medal (6th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), South West Asia Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Star (2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge.
As a young child, he learned to work on toy model cars and trucks with his cousin Andre repairing their Uncle Gregory’s model collection that they had broken. As he matured, his passion for working on trucks expanded to dump trucks, tractors, and trailers, following in the footsteps of his father and both of his grandfathers. After his retirement, he was able to fulfill his childhood passion of building and collecting model trucks giving himself the title of The LargeCar Model Builder. Establishing his brand, he gained numerous model truck building enthusiasts and admirers of his work.
On August 16, 2003, a union of marriage was blessed between Damon M. Montague and Latanya Ashley. After surviving a tour of duty in Korea and a deployment in Iraq, the Lord blessed Damon and Latanya with Priscilla J. Montague “PJ”. The birth of “PJ” paralleled another life changing event for Damon when he became a beloved and dedicated father of a daughter that would be his jewel. Damon gave selflessly to his wife and daughter, establishing that with the Lord at his side, he would be the rock to his family providing the strength necessary to maintain his household. By providing it with comfort and confidence, “PJ” would know that she was truly blessed, and he was the man in her life that would set the standard for all men to follow.
Damon was preceded in death by his twin brother Damino Montague and paternal and maternal grandparents. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his legacy a wife, Latanya A. Montague; daughter, Priscilla J. Montague; mother, Sonja T. Montague; father, Michael S. Montague; two brothers, Tyrone (Crystal) Montague and Darrien M. Scott; two nephews, Sean A. and Tyrez E.
