Obituary
Daniel Francis Janik, aged 67, our beloved son, brother, uncle and great uncle passed away on June 13, 2025, in El Paso, TX at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus.
Daniel was born in Buffalo, New York on April 26, 1958 to Daniel and June (Avrard) Janik. Dan is survived by his 5 siblings (Mary Frances, Michelle, Marie, Gabrielle and Frank),brother-in-law Bradley Sands, sister-in-law Noel Ashpole, his nieces and nephews (Nick, Abbey, Georgia, Josh, Isabella, Daniel and Sarah) and a great niece and nephew; as well as the many friends who he considered his brothers and sisters. Daniel had a very supportive network of community friends who were all part of his family.
Dan had an avid passion for tinkering and building things. He loved building models, restoring vehicles and was a collector of many things including coins, model cars and trains, as well as historical weapons. He was also a keen rifleman. He was a keen supporter of the Buffalo Bills and the West Sydney (Balmain) Tigers (Australian rugby league).
Dan spent his youth in Taipei, Taiwan and Sydney, Australia before moving to the US to join the Army.
Dan's 20 years of military service were in the Air Defense Artillery for Hawk and Patriot air defense systems having served in Germany, Korea and the U.S. Upon retirement in1997, Dan continued using his expertise in air defense systems for the Raytheon and Martin-Marietta Corp in various capacities overseas including Germany, Egypt and Southwest Asia and the Middle East.
As a veteran, he was a long-time member of the American Legion and the Forty and Eight, a Charitable Honor Society of Veterans, having served also as commander of V-605, 40 & 8 in 2009 and 2017. Dan was very involved in many charitable efforts of the40 & 8 including their Nurses Training Scholarship Program and Fund and the Flags for First Graders Program, visiting countless schools in El Paso every year.
A Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Rd, El Paso, Tx. Following the Mass, we will goin procession to Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso for the interment service which will begin with military honors at 1:30 pm.
The family would like to thank everyone for their friendship and support during this time. Dan will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
