Donald Cannon

January 31, 1938 — April 10, 2015

Donald H. Cannon of El Paso, Texas, was born in Dierks, Arkansas to Horace & Opal Cannon and later moved to Anthony, N.M. where he met his high school sweetheart, Betty J. Love. They were married 54 years. He peacefully passed away with his wife, daughter, and dear friends by his side on April 10, 2015 at the age of 77. Donald attended Texas Western College & served in the Army through the National Guard. He retired from the El Paso Natural Gas Company. Upon retirement he owned Files Exterminating Company. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and the companionship of many close friends. For many years he coached Little League teams and was a mentor to so many young boys who turned into fine men. He was a member of the Optimist Club for many years. He attended St. Mark’s Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father Horace and mother Opal Cannon as well as sister Betty Nell Tanner. He is survived by his wife Betty and his daughter Stephanie. He is also survived by his brother Lindy Cannon & sister Jimi Churchill as well as many loving nieces, nephews and other relatives. Donald was not only a devoted husband and amazing father but was also a brother, uncle and best friend to so many young and old. He never met a stranger and will forever remain in our hearts as a true father, husband, friend and one of the “good guys.” We wish to thank his doctors, Vipool Patel, MD, and Juan Perez, MD, that were first friends and then his doctors. A Visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Sunset Funeral Home-West.
