Dorothy Wood

Dorothy B. Wood, 92, died July 23, 2016 in El Paso. Born January 9, 1924 to Alvin and Myrtle (Cousins) Best in Kansas, then moved to El Paso with her family in 1936. She attended schools in Kansas, Texas and New Mexico graduating from Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM. Formerly active in Soroptimist Club, Beta Sigma Phi and serving as a hospital volunteer. She was a member of Western Hills United Methodist Church and Esther Circle. An Avid reader, talented knitter, persistent cross-word puzzler, pet-lover, creative cook, faithful volunteer, good friend and was a beloved sister and aunt. She is preceded in death are her parents, son Bert M. Snider III; husband Vernon Wood, sister, Marlene Bean, brother Jay Best; Sister-in-Law, Better Best; Brother-in-laws Niles Bean and Ernie French and step-son Gary Wood. Dorothy is survived by her sister MaryAnn French, Fargo, ND; Nieces Debra Bean, El Paso, TX, Loranna (Bean) Cox, Arlington, TX, Cynthia (French) Stiles, Woodland, CA; Nephews Nelsen Bean, McAllen, TX, Dave French, Fargo, ND; Step-Sons David, Donald and Brian Wood. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Sonia Martinez for providing faithful companionship, devotion and a loving care. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480, N. Resler Dr. Rev. Amy Mercer will be officiating.
