Ed Soto, a one-of-a-kind father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, confidant, entrepreneur, visionary, leader, and giver, age 74, took his last breath peacefully in his sleep next to his beautiful bride of almost 55 years on June 22, 2025. He joins his beloved parents, Manuel and Guadalupe; his brothers, Panchito, Faustino, and Adolfo; and many other loved ones in their eternal home. Together, they will watch over those still here: his wife, Josefina; his children, Lisa & Paul, Eddie, Stephanie & Jorge, and Joseph & Sarah; his grandchildren, Sebastian, Roque, Nia, Celeste, Gaby, Bella, Mia, and Ella; his great-granddaughter, Gia; his siblings, Lupe & Carlos, Martha, Rosa & Frank, and Ricardo & Nena; and many, many more beloved friends and family members.
Throughout his life, Ed served the Madres Adoratrices, who became his spiritual advisors along with various priests along the way. A self-made businessman and pioneer of Segundo Barrio, he was steadfast in his faith and brought people together to renovate many churches in the El Paso area. Giving, serving, and loving others was his passion. When he felt the call, he always went for it. “Can’t” was not in his vocabulary. Ed motivated and inspired his kids and grandkids, teaching them no dream is too big. He lived a full-throttle life until a heart attack slowed him down in April.
In his last couple of months, his heart wound down and his soul ramped up. Ed sought to reconcile with anyone he might have offended, he grew in an inspiring and more fiery faith, and he loved so fiercely, it was no wonder he exhausted his human heart. His family was at his side the entire time. His bombastic jokes and levity brought laughter to those around him, even in the Sierra ICU where selfless healthcare providers and staff kindly cared for him. There, always wearing his signature blue sunglasses, he got to know the employees, asking how everyone was doing, asking about their lives and how he could help them. We are grateful to everyone who had a hand in Ed’s life and in his care, especially his primary physician, Germán, whom he loved like a son.
Ed’s spirit and example will live on in those whose paths he crossed. We are excited to have this tremendous advocate on our side from up above.
