Elaine Florence Ranslem

ELAINE F. (CARTER) RANSLEM, passed away on October 20, 2015, at age 81, after a long, painful struggle with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome and other related health problems for more than 40 years. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 23, 1934, the daughter of Stanley and Irene Carter. She graduated from Marshfield High School, and went on to Melrose School of Nursing, graduating in 1954, and became a registered nurse. Always focused on the need for universal health care, she became an advocate for children with behavioral problems and young adults with drug addiction. She moved to California, where she met and married Robert D. Ranslem, in 1957, who passed in 2005. They moved to El Paso, Texas, with their son in 1964, where they both became licensed private aircraft pilots and co-owned a Cessna aircraft. She was a board member for the El Paso Child Guidance Center, and later, psychiatric nurse for Aliviane Treatment & Recovery Services in the 1970s. She helped write a "white paper" to the President (Ford) on the effects of kids inhaling dangerous paints and glue. She is survived by her only child, Mark Ranslem, a city commissioner, in Washington, DC, and other family members including Roselia Mandujano. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., with a Vigil to begin at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 26th, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 27th, 2015 at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar Rd. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
