Elizabeth Helen Brehmer

Elizabeth Helen (Petersen) Brehmer, age 87, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 23, 2014, in El Paso, Texas. Mrs. Brehmer was born on September 9, 1927, in Schofield, Wisconsin, to parents Delbert and Minnie Petersen. She was a long-time member of Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Schofield Wisconsin, where her grandparents, Theodore and Albertine Muelver were founding members. She graduated from Wausau East High School in 1946 and worked as a bookkeeper for Marathon Electric, Wausau, Wisconsin, for over ten years. Later, she served for many years as accountant for the District President's Office at The Lutheran Center in Wausau. Elizabeth was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She married Frank W. Brehmer, Wausau, Wisconsin, on August 14, 1948. The couple had three children, including two daughters and one son, who died at birth. Elizabeth was a long-standing volunteer for St. Peter's and local charities. She enjoyed music and needlework, and had a special love of animals. Family and friends will always remember her modesty, empathy, sly sense of humor, and care for others before herself. Mrs. Brehmer is survived by, Diane Brehmer and John Reese, of St. Paul, Minnesota; Barbara and Joe Upsal, of El Paso, Texas; and a grandson, Kent Reese, of New York. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Brehmer, and one brother, Delbert Petersen Jr., of Wausau. A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2014, 5:00pm, at Zion Lutheran Church, El Paso, followed by a reception and supper at the church. Reverend Stephen Heimer and Reverend Howard Patten will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Elizabeth's life. The family would like to thank Elizabeth's caregivers at Monte Vista del Coronado for their loving and dedicated care in Elizabeth's later years; and the pastors and faith communities at Trinity Lutheran and Zion Lutheran Church for their strong and loving support.
