Lt. Col. (ret) Frank H. Smiley passed away October 8, 2015 at the age of 95 years. He was born on February 7, 1920 in Milford, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS in Husbandry and a Masters from University of Maryland in Bacteriology. Herb married the love of his life, Josephine, on May 18, 1941. He was drafted shortly after their life in the US Army began. During WWII he served in India, Okinawa and Japan. During his military career he and Josephine moved many times including Washington DC, Germany, San Antonio, San Francisco and El Paso where he retired in 1962. In 1982, they moved to Cloudcroft, NM and enjoyed life where they were members of the Methodist Church, Seniors Center and James Canyon Fire Department. With their love of travel they also enjoyed 60+ cruises to all parts of the world, with the final cruise to Tahiti with Josephine in 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine, son Roger and granddaughter Valerie. He was a Mason for over 75 years, and a member of Tobin Park Methodist Church. Leaving behind are daughters Marcia, Cheryl and Karen (husband Mike), 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Visitation: October 13, 2015 at 11:30, Funeral Service following 12:30 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, Texas. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
