Fred Gregory Morris was born on April 18, 1938 and peacefully went to our Lord at his longtime home in El Paso, Texas May 10, 2015.
Born in Charlottesville, Virginia to Bertha and Amos Morris, Fred was raised on a farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains as the seventh of ten children. In the fifth grade Fred was accepted to Miller School an all-boys military school where he played first base on his baseball team and graduated as Salutatorian of his class.
Fred was accepted into the honors program at the University of Virginia and majored in electrical engineering. He joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss Army base in El Paso, Texas where he was given the exclusive honor of being Soldier of the Cycle. Fred was recognized for his great baseball skills and was asked by the US Army to play baseball. He continued his baseball career for the next four years with the US Army’s baseball team. Fred was later drafted to play baseball for the Canadian league but chose a career in finance instead.
Fred began his career with National Western Life and was named Man of the Year countless times. In 1963, Fred started his own financial & retirement planning firm Mormac Brokerage Agency, Inc.
Fred was always involved in his community and believed in giving back. He chaired several local charities and supported others with anonymous donations. He never “needed” credit. He truly believed in the old adage… It is better to give than to receive.
Many will remember Fred for his positive attitude, mental strength, dry humor, relentless work ethic and his charming social skills which afforded him many friends. His true loves in life though were his wife, children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Bertha and Amos Morris and brothers: Earl Morris and Elwood Morris and sister, Lucille Morris Hall. He is survived by siblings; Amos Morris, Floyd Morris, Glen Morris, Betty Adcock and Charlotte Morris Hodges.
