Fredric (Fred) Benjamin Gilbert, 92, passed away Monday July 4th at his home in El Paso, Texas. Fred was born in Ohio where he was raised in an orphanage. He joined the Army as he wanted to serve his country. Fred became a paratrooper during WWII, where he received numerous medals including the Bronze Star for valor. Fred did not accept his medals at the time he earned them, as he felt it was his duty and not for the recognition. He was to receive them in a private ceremony in August of this year.
He continued his service career by joining the Coast Guard, serving several duty stations on the east coast including the Customs House in NY city from which he retired as a Chief in 1964. Fred married his late wife Mollie after they met in Atlantic City, NJ. and moved to Lancaster, Penn. and is now survived by his 5 sons, Dorsen (Red), Darren, Galen, Todd and Cory. Fred was very proud of his boys as well as his 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
We will miss you Dad…we love you.
