Gayle Rachelle Roberts, age 78, returned to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 8, 2026 in El Paso, TX. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Gayle was born Elkhart Indiana and moved to Florida in her youth. Gayle became an avid flutist and played in the marching band, which led her to the opportunities of playing in the Rose Bowl and the World’s Fair in New York.
Gayle met and married the love of her life, Paul, and together raised six children. Although with her husband in the Navy and often deployed, she often did a lot of it on her own. She loved being a mother and wife and loved surprising her family. One Thanksgiving, when Paul was deployed, she made the holiday special by turning the potatoes blue, the turkey bright pink and the stuffing green. She also planned a surprise 60th birthday party for Paul, flying all the children and grandchildren in without him finding out.
Although her kids may be biased, they believe she was the best cook and baker. They have wonderful memories of coming home to the smell of freshly baked bread or cinnamon rolls at least once a week, and a roast after church on Sundays. She loved holidays and decorated for every one. She kept all her kids’ school art projects and proudly displayed them on the wall during Christmas, much to the dismay of her children.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved completing genealogy for the church and our family. On nights she couldn’t sleep, you could find her at the computer working to digitalize historical documents so that people would have the ability to research their family lines. She often said, “everyone deserves to have their name remembered”.
She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and will be dearly missed. Gayle is preceded in death by her parents: Wayne Howard and Eliana Lillian Dunlap, her husband: Paul Cliffton Roberts, and her daughter Ariella Capri Roberts. She is survived by her children: William Nephi Dunlap (Donna), Wayne Aaron Dunlap (Toni), Heather Cherron Garner (Ammon), Bronwyn Hollie Roberts, Myra Nichole Roberts, her siblings: Diantha Pacheco and Bronwyn Elizabeth Swope, her grandchildren: Donyall Patricia (Dustin and Jenny) Smith, Michael MacKay Dunlap, McKenna Paige Perez (Jacob), Don Cherron Garner, Nathan True Garner, great-grandchildren: Wyatt Gabriel Smith and Eliana Grace Perez. She is also survived by many extended friends and family to cherish and honor her memory.
Pallbearers include: William Dunlap, Wayne Dunlap, Ammon Garner, Michael Dunlap, Nathan Garner, Dustin Smith, Jacob Perez and Dennis Webb.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-West, 480 N. Resler.
