George William (Bill) Smith, 78, of Horizon City passed away peacefully on July 10th, 2015 after a two year illness.
He was born May 1st, 1937 in Alamogordo, NM to Edward Smith and Irene Conyers Smith. He was a 1955 Austin High School graduate and worked for Mountain Bell / Southwestern Bell for 37 years. He married Nora Gonzales on October 11th, 1979. His love for traveling took he and Nora across the US, Mexico and Canada and to visit family and friends. He had a talent for woodworking and clock making and crafted many clocks for family, friends and fellow retirees. He loved dogs and had many throughout his lifetime.
Survived by Nora, his loving wife of 37 years, mother Irene Hart of Horizon City, daughter Christy Farris (Randy) of Clyde, TX and grandchildren; Brandi, Jace, Lauryn, and Thomas. Also survived by his great grandsons, extended family members and countless friends.
Preceding him in death was his father, Thomas Smith, stepfather Kenneth Hart and his son George W Smith Jr.
Sincere thanks to all his doctors, the staff at Providence Memorial and Sierra East and La Mariposa Hospice for their dedication and loving care.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, 9521 N. Loop, El Paso, TX on Thursday, July 16th at 2:00 PM. Private internment will take place at a later date.
