Gilberto Martinez

October 2, 1936 — June 30, 2026

Gilberto Martinez, age 89, of El Paso, TX, passed away peacefully on June 30th 2026 at his home surrounded by family and his beloved dog Bella. He entered the world on October 2nd 1936 in Esperanza, TX, born to the late Juan Martinez and Manuela Martinez. Mr GIL built a life anchored in hard work, humor, and kindness. He was an Ysleta Indian and served his country proudly in the United States Navy onboard the USS Hancock CVA 19 for four years and spent over 35 years working in civil service in different roles at Fort Bliss, TX. Outside of work, he was passionate about movies, music, casinos, and hanging out at McDonalds with his friends betting against the Cowboys. His family will forever cherish the fond memories of his charisma, laughter, his love for mob movies and the love he had for his friends and family. He is survived by his sisters Lydia Alvarado, Esperanza Sarmiento, and his brother Alfredo Martinez. He is also survived by his loving sons, Gilbert A. Martinez, Ruben Martinez and Daniel Martinez, his daughters-in-law Irene Martinez, Sandra Martinez, Maria Luisa Duarte; and his grandchildren and respective spouses, Bobby Martinez, Jessie Coe, David Martinez, Thomas Martinez, Rachel Martinez, Robert Martinez, Danielle Martinez, Athena Martinez, Daniel Martinez, Samantha Button, Bernice Duarte, Priscilla Sanchez, and his great grandchildren Miles Coetinez, Sophia Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Emma Martinez, Allie Coon, and Lily Grace Button. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Gloria J. Martinez, and his parents Juan Martinez, Manuela Martinez, and his brothers Jose Felix Martinez, and Reynaldo Martinez.

 A celebration of Gilberto’s life will be held on 7-10-26 at 12:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, located at 750 N. Carolina, El Paso, TX. 79915. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
