Gladys Geneva (Sivels) Blount was born September 10, 1933, in Baltimore, MD to the late Boston J. Sivels Sr. and Bessie (Jones) Sivels. She passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 after a long term Illness. We will miss a great mother and grandmother. She was married to James M. Blount, Sr. for more than 55 Years. She leaves behind her husband; a son, James M. Blount II, daughters Gladys S. Blount and Janet D. Blount, and a grandson, Gregory James Holden. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. William Sivels; her sister, Louise Beasley; brother in-law Theodore Aldrich and a host of nieces, nephews (to include grand and great grand nieces and nephews). Gladys has many long-term friends who are also considered family some of them have known her over sixty years. She graduated from Frederick Douglas High in 1953; then she attended Morgan State College in Baltimore for two years where she studied Elementary Education. She left school to work and joined the United States Army where she spent almost two years stationed at Brooke Army Medical Center. Shortly after marrying her husband James, also in the Army, she left the military to travel the world with her family building her career and supporting her husband’s Army career. She graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso, Texas earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary/Special Education. She taught school for EPISD and DoDDS and she held various management positions overseas for Military Youth Services. She taught for almost 30 years before ultimately retiring from the El Paso Independent School District. In retirement she taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School at Fort Bliss Chapel One. Visitation will be from 4-9 PM Monday, December 28, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Fort Bliss Chapel One. Committal Service will follow at 2:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
