Gloria Szymblowski Walls, 71, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. She will be remembered for her willingness to give a deep love of family, and knack for making others feel welcomed and valued.
Early Life
Gloria was born in Baltimore, MD in April 1955. In 1959, she and her family moved to El Paso, TX after her dad left military service and accepted a job at White Sands Misile Range. While in high school she participated in a work/study program, attending classes in the morning and working at White Sands in the afternoon. Upon graduation from Andress High School in 1973, she became a full-time federal employee at White Sands until retirement in October 2014.
In early 1976, Gloria and Greg met through a mutual friend. They married alter that year in November.
Interests
She loved to spend time with family, shop, and care for her fur babies.
Gloria loved to be around family, whether just running errands with big sister Mary, visiting baby sister Joan, or marathon shopping with Doris and/ or John. She especially loved the Oct-Dec time of year. She enjoyed decorating for Halloween, but truly treasured Thanksgiving and Christmas when she was able to visit with her nieces and nephews: Jonathan, Nick, Vanessa, Mary Nicole, Christie, Rebecca, and Melissa.
Gloria had an extraordinary passion for shopping, whether in the store or online. Rumor is she turned her pups into ''QVC junkies". In their younger years, she, John, and Doris would open and close the malls. John and Doris would go home exhausted, while Gloria was just catching her 2nd wind.
Gloria was a devoted pet mom. Even though she had a special affection for yorkies and chihuahuas, she was always willing to help any pup in need. To capture the essence of her feelings towards pups, she had two displays in her home:
"A smooch from a pooch is good for the soul"
and
"My idea of heaven is to get there and find every dog I've ever loved waiting for me"
Preceded in death and survived by
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Talbot and Mary; sisters Mary and Joan; and brother John.
She is survived by her husband of 49+ years, Greg; her sister, Doris; sister-in-law Karen and husband Kurtis; brother-in-law David and wife Cheryl; sister-in-law Maria; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will carry her memory forward.
