El Paso icon passed away on April 12, 2026. Hal Marcus (74) died as he lived, artfully and peacefully, in his unique home, surrounded by loving family, friends, and his art collection. Hal leaves a legendary legacy of creativity as a painter, art collector and dealer, book publisher and mentor to countless artists.

Hal is preceded in death by his grandparents, Halfon and Latife Marcus who immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1921 from Aleppo, Syria; his parents, Morris M. and Rena Shabot Marcus.

Hal is survived by his sisters, Shirleen Askenazi and Lillian Slovik, and brothers, Meyer Marcus and Clement Marcus; his first wife Judith Ann Marcus; his daughters; Leilainia, Nicole Adelaide, his son, Marco; and his wife of 25 years, Patricia Medici.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2026, at B’nai Zion Cemetery, located at 3915 Gateway West Blvd., El Paso, Texas 79905. Following the interment, family and friends are invited to a reception and ceremony to express condolences at the Sunset Parlor, 1307 N. Oregon St., El Paso, Texas 79902.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made toward the establishment of the Hal Marcus Art Museum at 1319 North Oregon, scheduled to open, God willing, late 2027. To donate, go to SunsetParlor.com.

Hal Marcus was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, friend, mentor and overall wonderful human being. He will live in the hearts of everyone he met for eternity.
