Harold L. Jackson 

Command Sergeant Major Harold L. Jackson, Sr. had 95 years of life, love, and service. On October 9, 2025, Harold was released from his life on earth to be in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ along with other beloved family members. He passe peacefully in his home in Huntsville, Alabama. Harold faithfully served God, his country, his family, and his community for over nine decades.

Harold Leonard Jackson was born on July 28, 1930, in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Reverand Willie A. and Lutisia H. Jackson during the early years of the Great Depression. Harold was their oldest son. Harold helped his father in the fields or his mother at home. He graduated from Zion High School and then went on to State College. Towards the end of his senior year, Harold joined the United States Army and embarked on a career that would span 30 years, including a deployment to Korea during the Korean War and a tour in Europe. He also met and married Miss Orion Meaders and they had 3 children: Alfred, Harold Jr., and Jill. Harold’s faith, intelligence, dedication to serving, as well as the love and support of his family helped him persevere through hardships and difficulties to achieve his career goals. Harold achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major shortly before his retirement from the military in 1981. Harold worked for SCI Systems, Incorporated in Huntsville, Alabama, until the early 2000s. Harold completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Athens State University in 1985. Harold’s commitment to serve led him to join the Von Braun chapter of Lion’s Club International. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, their highest honor for humanitarian service. Harold also served as Lion’s Club District Governor for the State of Alabama as well as President of the Von Braun Chapter. Harold’s other civic duties included District 1 Commander 2002-2003 with the Alabama Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents Rev. Willie and Lutisia, sisters Willie Mae, Jo Ella, and Loretta; brother Vernon Hunter; wife Orion; son Harold Jr., grandson Matthew(Harold Jr) and granddaughter Amber (Alfred); son-in-law Dennis Gaines.

Harold is survived by his brothers St. Clair, John, and Hurley Jackson; son Alfred Jackson, his wife Pamela and their son Andrew; Harold Jr’s widow Deborah Jackson and their daughter Jennifer; and daughter Jill Jackson Wentworth and her husband, Sean.

Harold’s faithful service to his family, country, and his community leaves a legacy for us to cherish and follow.
