Harriet Allen-Winters passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. She was born in El Paso, Texas. The family moved to Dallas where Harriet attended University Park Elementary School, Highland Park High School, then returned to El Paso to graduate from Texas Western College. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She received her master’s degree in Education from Southern Methodist University. Harriet was a devoted teacher for over forty years in Dallas, Bryan, and El Paso. Harriet was a lifelong Episcopalian and a founding member of the Anglican Cathedral Church of Saint Francis. She served on the board of directors for the Women’s Club of El Paso. As a founding member and treasurer for The Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso, she received numerous awards for her work. Harriet was a talented gardener, a gifted seamstress and needle worker, and artist.
She is survived by her sister and brother in law Mary Margaret and Jack Bollinger, niece Margaret Ewell and husband Vincent, nephew Benjamin Bollinger, wife Sara and their daughter Kristen, niece Amanda Bollinger, nephew Kevin Bollinger, wife Karen and son Matthew, and cousin Grace Henson. Harriet was blessed with many friends in El Paso. The family wishes to thank all of them and in particular Susan Oliva, Raquel Reyes and Pam and Billy Stevens for the care they gave Harriet.
Services will be held at The Anglican Cathedral Church of Saint Francis on February 20, 2015 at 11:00am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso or The Anglican Cathedral Church of Saint Francis.
