Hazel Willis Hawes, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in El Paso, Texas. Born on July 15, 1946, in Washington, Georgia, Hazel’s life was a testament to grace, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was 79 years old.
Throughout her life, Hazel was a pillar of love and support to those around her. She is survived by her devoted spouse, Robert Hawes, whose partnership brought profound joy and companionship. Hazel was a cherished mother to her three children: John Michael Hawes, Robert Douglas Jr., and Melissa Ranae Hawes. Their lives were forever enriched by her nurturing presence.
Hazel was also a treasured sister, survived by James S. Willis, Barbara J. Willis, and Roselle Jones. The bonds she shared with them were an integral part of her life’s journey. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Willis and Gladys Easley, and sisters Chaldean Bates, Sarah A. Poole, and Gladys Watson, whose memories Hazel held dear throughout her years.
Services to honor Hazel’s life will be held on June 22, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast, located at 4631 Hondo Pass in El Paso, Texas. The day will begin with a visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing family and friends time to gather and share memories. Following this, a Celebration of Life will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., where Hazel’s spirit will be lovingly remembered. The day will conclude with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m., lasting until 3:30 p.m., as her family lays her to rest with dignity and honor.
Hazel Willis Hawes will be remembered not only for her commitment to her loved ones but also for her enduring warmth, compassion, and strength. She leaves behind a lasting imprint on the lives she touched, and though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. May she rest in peace.
