On March 31, 2023, Helena Johnson passed away in Plano, Texas at the age of 84.
Helena is survived by her son Larry L. Johnson of Frisco, Texas (wife Tawnya, his son Sebastian and their daughter Quincy), Daughter in law Barbara Johnson of Conyers, Georgia (daughter Shonta’ and son Greg Jr.) and siblings Delmarie Lynch of Hagerstown, Maryland, Delores Harris of Hagerstown, Maryland, Charles Lynch of Carrollton, Texas and a long list of nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Florence Lynch, father Howard Lynch, siblings Brenda Lynch, Don Lynch, Charlotte Mickens, Zelda Lynch, Manuel Lynch, Taft Lynch, Fenroy Lynch, Karen Lynch-Patterson and son Gregory Johnson.
Helena was born on February 1, 1939 in Garrison, West Virginia. She attended Carver High School in Maddison, WV. Helena married the love of her life Harry L. Johnson, affectionately known as “Doc”. During Doc’s military career they settled in El Paso, Texas where they raised their son’s Gregory and Larry. Helena had a long career at AFFES Post Exchange (Fort Bliss), where she met many of her lifelong, cherished friends.
One of Helena’s favorite pastimes was connecting with her family and friends. She loved Gospel and R&B Music and taught her boys to dance. Music was often heard in their house. Helena loved the Lord and attended the Baptist Church on Fort Bliss military base. She enjoy playing bingo, slots, lottery and especially her scratch off tickets! Helena loved the small pleasures of life like receiving flowers and cards. Every card was perfectly displayed on her mantel to be enjoyed for weeks. Later in life, Helena spoke for hours on the phone with her siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. These were all relationships she cherished dearly!
Helena’s quiet nature and strong spirit will be missed by those that loved her!
A memorial service for Helena will be on April 13, 2023 with Visitation at 11:00 AM with Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, on Thursday April 13, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast 4631 Hondo Pass. Committal Service will follow at 1:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson.
