Helga Ruth De La Rosa, 89,
passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 in El Paso, Texas. She was born on April 30, 1936 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany. There she met her soulmate Margarito, a member of the United States Army Corps, whom she married in 1958. Helga was fiery, stubborn, and full of life. Together with her husband she built a life centered on her family, and she poured her heart into every moment she had with them.
Helga was a trusted counselor who relished long conversations with loved ones, where she could impart her wisdom gained through a lifetime of remarkable experiences. As a lifelong caregiver to her son Michael, she made sure he was always safe and cared for, advocating strongly on his behalf to ensure his ongoing care. She found immeasurable joy in family gatherings and celebrations, especially with her grandchildren, who knew her as "Oma." In addition to her devotion to her nearby family, Helga also nurtured the lifelong relationships she shared with her sisters, Gisela and Anita. On the lighter side, she had a deep interest in fashion and loved occasions to dress up and to express her style.
She was preceded in death by her father Ludwig Mattern and mother Elisabetha (née Loos) Mattern; sisters Gisela Colon and Anita Steinbrecher; and husband Margarito De La Rosa. She leaves behind her loving family: her children Gisela McLaughlin, Robert (Marina) De La Rosa, and Michael De La Rosa; her grandchildren Sara (Daniel) Pitcairn, Bobby (Max Henke) De La Rosa, Celeste (Benjamin) Poirier, Genevieve (Vincent) Villalobos and Joshua Hernandez; and great-grandchildren Harper Poirier and Rita Pitcairn.
