Henry Westmoreland was born in Virginia and passed away in El Paso, Texas on Saturday, August 22. 2026 a while after his 87th birthday. Henry is preceded in death by his father Marion Westmoreland, mother Hazel Westmoreland and sister Anna Westmoreland. He is survived by his son Ralph Westmoreland.
Henry joined the United States Army a few months before the Cuban Missile Crisis. That crisis would see him transferred to Germany where he would meet his future wife Gerlinde M. Westmoreland who was working as a court stenographer in Kassel, Germany. They would marry in 1964 and remain together for almost 58 years until her passing in August 2022.
During his over 20 years of service in the United States Army, he served tours in Asia, Europe and the continental United States. Henry served near Dak To during the Vietnam War. He would retire as a Sergeant First Class at Fort Bliss earning the Meritorious Service Medal.
Henry was a caring husband and father. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Graveside will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 11, 2026 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, Texas 79906.
