Herb Marsh, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters on March 7th, 2025. Born in Little Rock, AR in 1942 to Margaret Marsh and Herbert Marsh, Sr, he resided in El Paso, TX and later, Lincoln, NM. He married the love of his life, Chula Brown Marsh of El Paso, TX, in 1972 and they had two daughters together. For nearly six decades, he practiced law as both private practice attorney and Texas State Judge. History was his passion, especially the Lincoln County Wars. Volunteering, writing and sharing stories about Old Lincoln was how he spent his retirement years. Herb was the favorite person of every dog and cat he ever met, defender of the little guy, champion of the underdog, and the best husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He is survived by his wife Chula, daughter Carrie Harris and son-in-law Brad Harris (sons West, Bendigo, and Beckett), daughter Katharine Nelson and son-in-law Troy Nelson (daughters Willa and Prue), sister Margaret Ann Fifer (husband Edd), and a large and loving extended family. His dog Detta, cats Dumdum and Sister, and donkeys Babs and Dolly will all miss him and his frequent treats.
To remember and honor him, the family requests that you love one another deeply and unconditionally as he did, and donate to or volunteer time with Friends of Historic Lincoln (PO Box 83, Lincoln, NM 88338) or to your favorite charity.
