Hershel Lee Young

Hershel Lee Young, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the age of 73. Hershel was born in Littlefield, Texas on October 25, 1942. He received his high school diploma in Littlefield, Texas. While obtaining his bachelor’s degree in business from West Texas State University, he met and married Kathy Strohmeyer on August 6, 1965. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1966-1970. He served in Korea from 1967-1969, during the Vietnam War. After his service, he and Kathy had two daughters, Angela and Amanda. He was a plant manager in Arlington, TX from 1970-1979, and then in Vernon, Texas from 1979-1987. He moved to El Paso, Texas in 1987, where he joined his sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Jerry Austin at Property Damage Appraisers. He remained with PDA until his retirement. He was also a member of the Five Points Lions Club. He is survived by his children Angela Young and her husband Ruben Galaviz, Amanda Young and her husband Kelly Welch. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Cody Ortiz and his wife Morgan; Mariah Galaviz, Caden Galaviz, Brady Welch, one great granddaughter, Celeste Ortiz, and loving sister Shirley Hagemeir. He is preceded in death by his parents, Floy and Wally Paul Young, his sister Irene Austin, and brother Clinton Young. Visitation will be from 6:00PM-8:00PM Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Service will be at 8:30AM Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service will follow at 10:00AM Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
