Hipolita "Pola" Garcia
1937-2016
Hipolita "Pola" Garcia went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on March 22, 2016. She was met at the gates of Heaven by the love of her life and her husband of 59 years, Hugo Garcia, Sr.
During her last few days on this earth she used her last breath and words to serve her Lord and God. She sang the words in Spanish to Dios Esta Aqui (God is Here).
"Dios esta aqui (God is here) Tan cierto como el aire que respiro (Just as certain as the air I breathe) Tan cierto como en la mañana se levanta el sol (Just as certain in the morning the sun comes up) Tan cierto como que le canto y me puede oir. (Just as certain as I sing and you can hear me)."
Pola was born on December 20, 1937 in Colonia Esperanza located in Julimes, Chihuahua. Her parents were Moises and Abelina Arenivas and Pola was one of 6 children: Juana Martinez, Tranquilino Martinez, Tranquilino Martinez II, Hilda Martinez, and Pricsiliano Martinez. She grew up in the area surrounding the border towns of Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. Pola was the daughter of a migrant farmer and worked in the cotton fields as a young child in the small town of Deming, Las Cruces, Anthony and Vido, New Mexico. At age 14, she relocated to the United States and resided with her aunt, Eugenia Pimentel, where she was enrolled in the Lydia Patterson Institute. It was during this time, Pola accepted Jesus Christ her personal Lord and Savior, where she began to attend Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana with her beloved cousin , Elizabeth Angulo. As a young adult, Pola worked in an air conditioning parts store where she met her life-long love, her soul mate, her husband Hugo Garcia, Sr. Pola and Hugo married on May 19, 1956 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Pola was a woman of faith, honor and strength who loved her God, her church and family. She was a military wife who served alongside her husband for 23 years. She was a social worker at heart; a true servant of God. She cared for the homeless by providing them with a bed to sleep; she cared for the hungry by preparing meals for them to eat; she was a caregiver to the sick and elderly when they had no one to care for them; she was a skillful seamstress and made clothes for those that lacked clothing; and she was an advocate for those that had no voice and ensured they were heard. Pola was a life-long member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana in El Paso, Texas where she demonstrated leadership, integrity, love, and respect - an extraordinary, humble and generous woman. She served in multiple roles within the church: a deacon's wife, Sunday School teacher, VBS Director and Teacher, Choir Member, Bus and Van Driver, faithful member of the WMU and Youth Counselor to name a few.
