Hisako Ueno Torres, 94 years old, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025.
She was born on June 15, 1930, in Kobe, Japan. She was the 2nd oldest of three girls and seven boys. She had a beautiful childhood watching her mother sew, playing with her siblings, and spending summers with her beloved grandmother.
The end of WWII brought American soldiers to Japan. She met and married Ricardo Torres from El Paso, Texas. The army took them to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, where their daughters, Dolores and Anita, were born. Their youngest daughter Melissa, was born in Ft Wainwright, Alaska. Hisako managed a household and cared for her daughters while her husband fought in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
They retired in El Paso, Texas. Everyone was a friend to Hisako. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and neighbors. She loved knitting, reading, traveling, the casino, and watching sumo.
She was the light of our lives and will be greatly missed.
Hisako was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Ricardo Torres, and daughter Anita Benitez. She is survived by her brother Ueno Yoshio, daughters Dolores Angerstein (Charles), Melissa Torres (Marc), grandchildren Ana Lisa Angerstein-Thompson (Brad), Charles Isaac Angerstein (Mary), Joseph Benitez, and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Three Oaks Hospice for the care and comfort they gave her and our family. Anna, Iris, Erika, and Chaplain Diaz - we are forever grateful.
