Hortencia Barrera

Hortencia Barrera, (77), of El Paso, Texas, passed away on July 02, 2026, peacefully in her sleep.

Hortencia was born to Bertha and Armando Jimenez, on May 06, 1949, in Santa Bárbara, Chihuahua. She was a kind, soft-spoken, intelligent, and generous woman, but above all, an exceptional mother and grandmother. Hortencia was widowed in 2023 by her husband of 44 years, Arthur Barrera. She was known in life by her gentle spirit and willingness to provide care, comfort, and love to all who were lucky enough to cross her path. Her faith was unwavering, and her spirit was resilient despite the many hardships faced during her lifetime. As many would say, “an angel walking amongst us.” Hortencia is survived by her children Amanda Layla, David and Marlene, and by her grandchildren Ezra, Zadok and Scarlett. She is also survived by her sons-in-law Todd and Brandon. Hortencia is preceded in death by her brother Hector Jimenez and daughter Esmeralda Barrera.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 6:00 pm Thursday, July 23, 2026, Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am, Friday, July 09, 2026, at Our Lady of Assumption, 4805 Byron Street. Committal Service to follow at 12:30 pm, Friday, July 24, 2026, Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 4848 Alps Drive
